Do you know how to ask for help?

People mostly think that asking a question involves just you reaching out to someone and directly asking for a solution to your problem.

But have you ever considered doing your homework before asking for someone’s time?

No?

Then the next time you have a question, try following this process instead.

– Write down all your questions somewhere

– Jot down the steps you’ve already taken to resolve the issue, what worked and what didn’t

– List down the outcomes that you want to achieve

Once you’re done with the steps above, you’ll have better clarity of your problem.

Sometimes, listing your issues makes you realize that some of the questions are redundant, get rid of them.

Other times, while writing down your blockers, the solution pops up in your head and you can omit those questions as well.

Once you’re happy, go ask for help by:

1. Briefly introducing yourself

2. Listing the remaining questions

3. Your efforts to solve them, and

4. Your desired outcomes.

Keep your message short and sweet.

Articulating your thoughts give you clarity, focus, and save everyone’s time

Remember, people offer their help more often when they see that you have put in some effort in finding a solution.

Because if you don’t show that you’re serious about solving your problem, then why would someone else care?

Doing your homework before asking for help is a clear sign that you value the time of the other person.

Try this, I’m sure you’ll be surprised to see how many people are willing to help you out.
